About us
Leicestershire Action for Mental health Project (Lamp) provides a much loved and valued mental health advocacy service for the community.
What is Mental Health Advocacy?
A mental health advocate is someone who is on a person’s side at a time when they are most vulnerable or feeling overwhelmed or confused. A time when they are least equipped to navigate a complicated health system. An advocate is someone who can help someone take control and plan for the future as well as helping them to manage their wellbeing.
You’ve probably heard the statistics that 1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental health illness during their lives and ‘one person dies by suicide every 40 seconds’ (WHO 2019). Our hope is that, should one of those people be yourself or someone you know or love, the type of life-enhancing support services Lamp offers would be readily available to make that difference. The coronavirus has created such a mental health storm among communities with deprivation, unemployment, financial difficulty, grief, and lack of freedom etc. it is so important more than ever to reach out and support those people as soon as possible.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Best wishes,
The Lamp Team
